The mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church is to call all people to become disciples of Jesus Christ, to proclaim the everlasting gospel embraced by the three angel's messages (Revelation 14:6-12), and to prepare the world for Christ's soon return
To begin with “Everything has its beginning.” The seed of the Gospel germinated to grow amidst thorns, scorching heat and other evil forces in this work. It is the work of the Devil that through wicked people the plan of salvation for fallen human was tremendously obstructed. So much of hardships, threat and persecution were encountered when the pioneers of SDA Church accepted the 3 Angels’ messages (Sabbath Truth) in Manipur. Unlike many Denominations in Manipur, the beginning of SDA church is not credited to any particular foreign Missionary; because the vital origin of SDA mission was through reading a book called “The Bible Reading for the Home,” an SDA Book publication, USA.
This book is reportedly to have been left behind by an UNKNOWN SOLDIER of the ALLIED FORCE OF SOUTH EAST ASIA COMMAND (SEAC) of World War II in the home of Shri Luikai, Tangkhul Naga of Tolloi Village in Ukhrul District in the late 1940s. A Baptist Evangelist, Shri Late Ninghei Luikham borrowed this book from Shri Luikai and he studied prayerfully and later on he came to know about the Sabbath Truth. The grand old man Late Ninghei Luikham of Ukhrul began his Missionary work as a Lay evangelist. He studied in Assam Training School, upgraded to Northeast Adventist College, and now North-East Adventist University in Jowai, Meghalaya. As time passed by, the Adventist Message spread within and without Ukhrul.
Prior to the arrival of Missionaries from abroad, Sabbath movement took place in Ukhrul. After a few years, overseas missionaries visited Manipur along with the first converts of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The first missionaries were Pastor T.M. Ashlock and Mrs. Betty Ashlock of U.S.A. and Pr. D. Donesky of Canada (1956- 1957). Since the inception of the Adventist movement in Manipur, God has been so kind and the SDA church is on the move with church growth physically and spiritually. SDA churches of Manipur were under the Northeast Region, Shillong in the 1970s. However, full-fledged Section status was given for two states christened as “Manipur-Nagaland Section of SDA” in the year 1982. After many years, Nagaland Region was bifurcated from Manipur-Nagaland Section in January 2000. Manipur Section was upgraded to Conference Status in May 6, 2011. The First President of Manipur-Nagaland Section of SDA was (Late) Pr. R. Hungyo and first President of Manipur Conference of SDA was Pr. Barnabas Zimik. As of now, the Baptized membership in the Conference is 7478. The Conference has 46 organized churches and 65 companies.
