About

Seventh-day Adventist Church in Assam Region:

The Seventh Day Adventist Message came to Assam, when some Hindu students from Kokrajhar District went to study at Raymond Memorial Adventist School in Falakata, West Bengal. Some of these Students brought Adventist Message with them to their respective homes. It was in 1941 that Pr. W.G Jenson came to Balagaon Village in Assam along with those boys. The first convert was (L) Sophol Kisku and his wife (L) Mrs. Lilmoni Kisku who were baptized by Pr. W.G. Jenson in 1942.

Later on Adventist message came to Bahbari (Basbari) in 1956 when Mr. Surin from Jharkhand came and conducted the first effort meeting at Bahbari. In that effort meeting, Mr. M.P. Topno and Elizer Kongari accepted Christ and were baptized. Irvine Adventist School was established in 1974 by Mrs. Moira Irvine who came from Australia after some time.

In Udalguri District the first Adventist Message came to Kochpara Village in 1950 through Pr. A.C Brown. Mr. Baburam Nath and his wife; were the first Assamese family who were convinced and took baptism and after that the Adventist message spread to Borigaon village and some Boros were converted in the year 1983. Now we have a good church at Kochpara and Borigaon Village.

Adventist message came to Karbianglong Distric in 1984 through Umpanai Village. The first convert was Dhoniram Kromsa; who was Baptized by Pr. J.N. Topno.

There are many challenges in Assam field in order to spread the Adventist message in places like Goalpara , Dhubri, South Barpeta, Lakhimpur, Dhemaji and many other Districts. So we need people who can reach out to these unreached people. If we could establish either hospitals or Schools in these places then children or people can come and study and carry the message to their homes.

But nothing is impossible through our Almighty God. Please remember us in your daily prayer.
